The Omega Point is on the horizon

This weblog has really been a blessing for me. There have been quite a few years of frustration based on my inability to update omegaprojectmusic.com regularly. I have been able to post all of my music online, but not my other creative ventures. My writings, drawings, poetry, and journal entries have all remained anonymous.

No longer! Weblogs are (currently) the ultimate format for an everyday creator and thinker who wishes to post His/Her ideas and creations publicly in the ultimate forum, the Internet.
No longer are people and ideas cordoned off from each other by natural geography. More and more humans are able to access a total synthesis of global knowledge instantly. Search engines and public databases increase exponentially our ability as a society to make well informed decisions, and to project into well defined areas.
More and more daily I am reminded of The Omega Point - a moment when the “..ultimate cosmic computer will essentially be able to resurrect (”simulate” might be a more modest verb) everyone who has ever lived, by recreating simulations of all possible quantum brain states within the master simulation. This will be manifested as a simulated reality, except without the necessity for physical bodies. From the perspective of the simulated “inhabitant,” the Omega Point represents an infinite-duration afterlife, which could take any imaginable form due to its virtual nature.”

I know it sounds like alot. But with Moore’s Law still accurate and Quantum Super-Computers around the corner (and probably being used in the N.S.A & C.I.A.), we can see in today’s society how much information has changed our lives.
Billions of people have cell phones , Billions online , and the numbers only to grow ,show that our planet and it’s people are about to create, experience, and fully document something Grand and Amazing. Enjoy the show!

Our “Virtual” Reality

Is light a particle or a wave? It would appear that the answer is in the eye of the beholder. Light alters between Particle and Wave when observed up close. Being that light is one of the most basic measuring tools we have (Light-speed) , how much does this say about our ability to understand Space/Time. There is no way to unobserve, and what of other observers? The Uncertainty Principle alerts us to the hard fact that we just can’t accurately measure our Universe.

Does a tree falling in the woods make a sound if no-one is there to hear it? I’ll do you one better. Is there even a tree to fall if I, the observer aren’t around? When I close my eyes, what happens to the Universe? It sounds like such a simple question, but Probability Waves allow for Infinite possibilities.
Quantum Mechanics and Relativistic Physics show that what happens on the Micro level can be quite different then the Macro level.
For all I know- My “spirit” is an electrical charge or wavelength, and this reality is merely a virtual manifestation of that spirits greatest fears and desires. Or perhaps the whole of the Universe one Great Organism. Growing and expanding like a Galactic cell dividing. Or could it be that we re all just an afterthought or dream to some vastly greater Being.
For now we don’t know. But I sense that Science and Religion will soon merge into something truly awe-inspiring. Once we understand that our spirits and the Universe are one entity and that we can express both through Math, Music, and Art, our world will truly be on the path to Galactic Citizenship.

What is “Intelligent” Life?

The Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence continues always on earth. New Planets and even New Galaxies are being discovered by scientists rapidly. Astro-Biologists are basically in agreement that microbial life is common place Galaxy-wide. The question seems to boil down to whether there is other “Intelligent” life in the Universe.

This has always seemed an arrogant approach to such a profound question. We must presume that “Intelligent” life would resemble us at least on a Bio-Chemical level- Carbon Based - but that is such an earthbound view-point. Who can put limits to what form life may take after witnessing the myriad ways it has evolved into every available niche on our planet.
Given time, it would seem that Intelligent life would be likely, even inevitable. The Drake Equation states that there may be as many as 1,000,000,000 “Intelligent” societies in the Milky Way Galaxy alone. But where are they? If they are so much like us why don’t we pick up their sitcoms and commercials on our Satellites. It may be shear distance. Or it could be that we don’t currently possess technology that allows us to detect and decipher whatever “They” are sending. Also there is the possibility that an alien race could possess technology far superior to ours and they can easily mask any signals.
I think that this demeans “microbial” life. Though not able to build societies and technologies, these life forms were around at the beginning of creation, we-evolved from them, and they will be around in the far distant future, supping on our trash heaps. I
n our arrogance, we assume that we fully understand “Communication” and “Intelligence”. But what is truly more intelligent, destroying an entire Bio-Sphere in 2 generations, or holding fast to your niche for millenia? Becoming so pampered that you loose touch with nature and destroy yourself, or persisting as long as the earth? Perhaps Microbial Life can teach us something about “Intelligent” Life.

What is Light?

What is Light?

A question that although seemingly quite simple, in actuality is quite complex. Of course there are the textbook definitions - the word “Light” meaning everything from “of comparatively little physical weight or density”, and “having a relatively small amount of coloring agent” to “unaccented: used of vowels or syllables; pronounced with little or no stress”. But what is Light, “luminosity: the quality of being luminous; emitting or reflecting light;”? The Light that brightens our world and graces our vision.
Light has the very odd ability to be both a wave and a particle . This confuses us right off the bat because the very act of observing light changes the way it behaves. Instantly posing questions about what happens when there is no observer, such as in deep space. We see light from far off Galaxies, thus proving that unlike sound, light can travel in a vacuum. But does our observing this Great Trek across parsecs alter the behavior of the light itself? If there were no-one watching would the light act the same? And as we delve with our telescopes farther and farther into deep-space, do we change the light that we finally see?
But light has held such a deeper meaning for our world. Light has always been one of the most important symbols. Universally accepted as meaning truth, understanding, and Divinity. Used by such diverse groups as The Brotherhood of Universal Love and The Illuminati.
According to modern Physics we can’t go the full speed of light. It would take Infinite Velocity to move Infinite Mass- and that confuses all formula’s. But perhaps “Light” is different for different Beings. Our frail carbon based bodies may not travel as fast as light, but could beings who were more energy based or perhaps even wave based preform that task?
Humans encode and send information in light form. Perhaps The Cosmic Astro-Biologist encoded all of the light in the whole Universe. And as our science and technology become more “Green” and we begin to measure aspects of the consciousness in terms of Math, we may by our act of observation alter lights behavior and detect the ancient information encoded within the light. Data collected and recorded at the moment of the Big Bang.
So light is a description, a wave, a particle, information, a symbol, luminosity, Truth, and so much more.

What is the Singularity ?

What is the Singularity?

What is the Singularity ?

In the not too distant future, using either Artificial Intelligence, Brain/Computer interface, Human Cyborg tech, or a mixture of all three, Humanity will create intelligence greater than itself, forever knocking us off our cherished spot at the top of the cognitive heap. From the moment of creation, this new intelligence will grow at leaps and bounds in accordance with Moore’s Law. This new intelligence in turn creating even greater intelligence at even quicker speeds, an increasing positive feedback loop. After that moment, humanity will no longer be at the reins, and all of history will change, a new epoch beginning in the blink of an eye.
What awaits humanity on the other side of the Singularity? Can we look forward to a world with Super-powerful thinking machines do our bidding, fulfilling our every wish? Will humans begin altering their bio-engineering, exponentially increasing mental computation speeds and storage capacity? Will humanity spread its wings and leave our birthplace, the Earth? With the use of Quantum computing and nanotech, can we turn the very universe we live within into a massive Computer, a Computronium ?
Or will machines instantly recognize our cultural dependence on them and institute a form of Hydraulic Despotism? Could your very synapses and brainwaves be scanned and stored on some “Matrix” like mainframe? Will this New-born Super-Intelligent Being simply have no use for us and begin mass extermination?
Will the intelligence be multi-aware? I mean, will it create other self-replicating versions of itself? It’s family? And if so, would each being be a separate cognitive being, or would they all still act in wireless unison with some mother-creator high band-width master computer? Will nano-tech offer a solution to the ailing environment? And most important, how will we be judged by our creations?
All of these questions are posed by a Human Mind, and that in itself is the core of the problem. Could a group of apes have foreseen the vastness of humanity. No, our intelligence is on a whole new level. And we are VERY similar to apes biologically. The kind of intelligence that we stand on the brink of creating is of a whole new order. We can’t possible hypothesize “what ifs” because we simple can’t comprehend what “more intelligent” than human is. Much less “much much much more intelligent”.
Intelligence is a multifaceted jewel. Insight, humor, philosophy, religion, love, contemplation, pre-meditation, mathematics, music, art, manipulation, genius. All concepts that we associate with “intelligence”. But those are merely human concepts, arrived at after thousands of years at the cognitive top. But what of a whole new being altogether?
I like to think that although humans are going to create this intelligence, we ourselves are merely the creation of something else. And as mankind worldwide has reverence for their creator, machines too may put us on a mystic pedestal. Or there is the possibility that Thinking-Machines may very well look at humans with disgust at our virus-like inability to achieve stasis with our environment. But once again, both of these scenarios are from our viewpoint, which truly underlines our problem with trying to hypothesize what “higher Intelligence” might do. We just can’t imagine.

Blackle- An Energy Saving Search

I wanted to let everyone know about Blackle - an energy saving search engine.

How is Blackle saving energy?

Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black.
Blackle searches are powered by Google Custom Search.

In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine.

You can see how much Energy was saved on the site… If Google is your homepage, set Blackle as your homepage instead!
